The Toronto Marlies will have to wait until Thursday before they can lift the Calder Cup.  The Texas Stars defeated Toronto 5-2 to force a deciding seventh game in the American Hockey League final series. The Marlies will host Game 7 on Thursday. They’ve never won a Calder Cup before.

Veteran left-hander J.A. (jay) Happ takes the hill this afternoon as the Toronto Blue Jays look to avoid a sweep in Tampa. Toronto lost the first two games of the series, including last night’s 4-1 defeat. The losses come on the heels of a four-game winning streak for Toronto.

Canadian right-hander Mike Soroka comes off the disabled list to start Atlanta’s afternoon game against the New York Mets today. The Calgary native landed on the D-L last month with right shoulder strain. Soroka is 1-and-1 over three starts for the Braves in his rookie season.

Toronto F-C welcomes D-C United to BMO Field in M-L-S play tonight. Toronto, with its roster finally getting healthy, has lost just once its last four games.  United has played nine of its 11 games so far this season on the road and has won just one of them. They’re 1-6-and-2 away from home.

Canada’s top two male tennis players are in first-round action this morning at the Stuttgart Open in Germany. Milos Raonic of Thornhill, Ontario, plays Mirza Basic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Denis Shapovalov of Richmond Hill, Ontario, takes on India’s Prajnesh Gunneswaran.

The Canadian Lacrosse Association and the National Lacrosse Team Players’ Association have reached a tentative deal that will allow Canada to defend its men’s field world championship title next month. The Federation of International Lacrosse says the agreement is confidential and was reached on June 8th. The two sides are to meet later this week to ratify the agreement.

Saskatchewan R-C-M-P say they are preparing to talk to Crown prosecutors about potential charges in the Humboldt Broncos bus crash. Police say they are still analyzing data and evidence gathered from the scene of the April 6th collision between the junior hockey team’s bus and a semi-truck near Nipawin. Sixteen people were killed and another 13 people were injured.
