Renfrew OPP investigating a serious assault in McNabb Braeside.

Yesterday afternoon they were called to a wooded area around 3 in the afternoon.

Officers were called by paramedics who were treating an injured person near Gunsmith Road.

The woman was suffering from critical injuries.

A man at the scene was treated at the scene taken into custody. Charges are pending.

The woman was taken to hospital.

Former Senators assistant GM Randy Lee goes to trial in Buffalo in early November.

Lee is now facing a single count of harassment.

A second charge was dismissed by the judge according to the Citizen because the allegations do not meet the legal definition of second degree harassment.

Lee still faces one count in connection to an incident on a shuttle bus in Buffalo.

Lee is accused of touching the shoulders of a male driver and making lewd comments to him.

Lee goes to trial on November 9th.

The provincial government will hold a rare Saturday sitting of the legislature to speed up passage of a controversial bill aimed at slashing the size of Toronto city council.

A source confirms to The Canadian Press that legislators will be called back to Queen’s Park Saturday to help speed up debate on Bill 31, dubbed the Efficient Local Government Act.

The bill re-introduces legislation that was struck down by an Ontario Superior Court judge as a violation of the charter rights of voters and candidates in the city’s upcoming municipal election.

The new legislation invokes the notwithstanding clause to override that court decision — the first time Ontario’s government has taken the measure.

The man accused of driving a van down a busy Toronto street, killing 10 people and injuring more than a dozen, is expected to appear in court today for the first time in four months.

Alek Minassian of Richmond Hill faces 10 counts of first-degree murder and 16 counts of attempted murder in the April 23rd attack.

Police allege the 25-year-old drove a rental van down the sidewalks of Yonge Street, mowing down pedestrians in his path.

Constable Ken Lam confronted Minassian immediately after the van attack and arrested him without incident.

Hurricane Florence has been downgraded to a Category 1 hurricane with top sustained winds of 150-kilometres per hour.

The U-S National Hurricane Center says the slow-moving, monster storm is lashing the North Carolina coast with hurricane-force winds and life-threatening storm surge.

Florence’s eye is moving northwest at about 10-kilometres per hour, and is expected to dump a significant amount of rain on the already inundated region.

Typhoon Mangkhut has retained its ferocious strength and shifted toward more densely populated coastal provinces as it barrels closer to the northeastern Philippines, where a massive evacuation is underway.

More than four-million people are at risk from the storm, which the Hawaii-based Joint Typhoon Warning Center categorizes as a super typhoon with powerful winds and gusts equivalent to a Category 5 hurricane.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he hasn’t given any thought to renaming the North American free trade pact.

Trudeau’s comments follow a report by the Wall Street Journal that U-S President Donald Trump is thinking of renaming a new trilateral agreement “U-S-M-C” — “M”  for Mexico and “C” for Canada.

Speaking from the Liberal caucus gathering in Saskatoon, Trudeau says his government is more focused on issues that will have a direct impact on Canadian jobs.

Democratic New York Governor Andrew Cuomo cruised to an easy victory over primary challenger Cynthia Nixon to win his party’s nomination for a third term.

The two-term governor consistently led in the polls and heavily out-spent his rival, a longtime activist and former “Sex and the City” star who was counting on a surge in liberal support.

Speaking to supporters after the final tally, Nixon said they helped push Cuomo to the left on several issues, such as the legalization of cannabis.

A Yukon paleontologist says the mummified remains of an ice-age wolf pup discovered outside Dawson City are especially rare because they are so well preserved.

Grant Zazula says the pup is more than 50-thousand years old and could be the only mummified ice-age wolf specimen in the world.

The wolf pup and a mummified caribou calf are now on display in Dawson City.

Next month the pre-historic pair will be moved to a museum dedicated to the Ice Age in Whitehorse.
