A record crowd of more than 48 thousand attended a women’s soccer match in Spain. It’s the most fans ever for a club-level women’s match in Europe.   The record for any women’s match was the 90 thousand who watched the 1999 World Cup final between the United States and China at the Rose Bowl.

The New England Patriots have their first practice in Atlanta since arriving in Georgia for the Super Bowl. Head coach Bill Belichick says they’ll be prepared for the Rams.

Key rulings are expected soon in a lawsuit against the NFL filed by two New Orleans Saints season ticket holders upset with the outcome of the N-F-C championship game.   The suit calls for the NFL to invoke a rule that could invoke in a do-over of the game…which of course ended with the Rams beating the Saints to advance to Sunday’s big game.  At issue is the failure of the officials to call interference or roughness penalties against a Rams player.

A big Eastern Conference matchup goes tonight in Toronto, with the Raptors hosting the Milwaukee Bucks. Toronto heads into the game in second place in the Conference, trailing the Bucks by percentage points only. The Raptors have 37 wins, the most in the league. The Bucks have 36 wins but fewer losses through fewer games.

Gary Woodland will look to defend his Phoenix Open title when he tees off this afternoon at T-P-C Scottsdale. The course has become known as one of the rowdiest places in golf. The Phoenix Open drew nearly 720-thousand fans throughout the week a year ago to set a P-G-A Tour record. David Hearn, Mackenzie Hughes, Nick Taylor, Adam Hadwin and Blair Hamilton are the Canadians competing in this year’s event.
