The Toronto Raptors continue their road swing with a stop in Atlanta to play the Hawks tonight. Toronto is coming off a big win over the Eastern Conference-rival 76ers in Philadelphia on Tuesday. The Raptors have won two straight after losing three of four. Atlanta is also coming off back-to-back wins but the Hawks are a dismal 18-and-35 on the season.

Canada’s Denis Shapovalov takes on Spain’s Marcel Granollers in second-round action at the Montpellier Open in Southern France. The teenager from Richmond Hill, Ontario is ranked 25th in the world and seeded third at the A-T-P 250 tournament. Granollers is number-111. The two players have never met in competition before.

Corey Conners, David Hearn and Adam Hadwin are among six Canadian golfers teeing off the morning at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am in California. Ted Potter Junior won the event last year. The course was hammered by heavy rain over the weekend. Wind was so strong it knocked over a corporate tent left of the sixth fairway.

Former Canadian hockey great Eric Lindros brought his star power to Parliament Hill yesterday to urge M-Ps to develop a single national protocol for preventing and treating all sports-related concussions.

Lindros, whose own N-H-L career was cut short after suffering repeated debilitating concussions, suggests youngsters should be forced to take a few months off each year from rough-and-tumble sports to give their still-developing brains a chance to heal.

He says children should also be prevented from making hits on opponents until they’re in their mid-teens.

Senators owner Eugene Melnyk has pledged to spend near the salary cap as soon as the club is more competitive.

Melnyk told a group at a Hockey Hall of Fame event in Toronto, the rebuild could take another season or two.

After that he says, the team will go on a run of unparalleled success.

The team plans to spend close to the salary cap from 2021 to 2025.
