Guerrero hit a grand slam in the ninth inning to give him a career-high five R-B-Is, and the Blue Jays pounded the Kansas City Royals 9-2. Sean Reid-Foley tossed five innings of four-hit ball as Toronto clinched its first winning series at Kauffman Stadium since April 2013.

Calgary city council has voted to approve a financial agreement with the Calgary Flames to build a new arena. Council voted 11-to-4 to build an event centre to replace the 36-year-old Saddledome. The city and Flames owner Calgary Sports and Entertainment announced last week a tentative agreement that would equally split the cost of a $550-million dollar venue.

Ellie Black is the most decorated Canadian gymnast in Pan American Games history after claiming two more medals yesterday in Lima, Peru. The Halifax native won gold in the women’s vault and took bronze in the uneven bars to give her nine career Pan Am medals. That eclipses the old mark of eight held by Willie Weiler.

Canada’s Milos Raonic hits the court today in Washington for his first match at the Citi Open. Raonic faces American Tim Smyczek in Round 2 after receiving a first-round bye. Raonic hasn’t played since early July when he was knocked out of Wimbledon in the Round of 16.

Canadian teenager Felix Auger-Aliassime can advance to the third round at the Citi Open with a victory today against American Reilly Opelka. Auger-Aliassime’s last time on a court was at Wimbledon, where he bowed out in the Round of 32. He also received a first-round bye in Washington.

Forward Chris Kunitz has retired after winning four Stanley Cup in 15 N-H-L seasons. The 39-year-old Kunitz had 619 points in 1,022 games with Anaheim, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Tampa Bay and Chicago. He’ll be joining the Blackhawks’ front office as a player development adviser.
