Ottawa’s mayor is among those who hopes pro baseball continues in the city.

There is talk the Champions are up for sale.

Jim Watson says whoever owns the team, he hopes other uses for the stadium on Coventry Road can be found.

Watson says there is a motion in front of city council for any new owner to make up any debt on the rental of the stadium to the city.

Rowdy Tellez’s two-run homer in the fifth inning gave Toronto the lead and the Blue Jays defeated the Boston Red Sox 4-3. Cavan Biggio and Reese McGuire added solo shots for Toronto. The Blue Jays won for the first time since August 31.

The Milwaukee Brewers’ playoff hopes were dealt a very big blow. Reigning National League M-V-P Christian Yelich broke his right kneecap on a foul ball during Milwaukee’s 4-3 win over the Marlins. Yelich did it while batting in the first inning and spent several minutes on the ground before limping off the field.

Nolan Arenado sent a ball soaring out of Coors Field, and the St. Louis Cardinals could not recover.  Arenado hit a 482-foot two-homer that bounced out of the ballpark in the first inning, Chi Chi Gonzalez got his first big league win in four years and the Rockies beat St. Louis 2-1 to slow the Cardinals’ playoff push.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are the first major league team to wrap up a post-season berth this season. The Dodgers have captured their seventh consecutive N-L West title with a 7-3 victory at Baltimore. Corey Seager drove in five runs with a pair of homers for Los Angeles, which took sole possession of first place on April 17 and led by 21 games on August 24.

Alphonso Davies had a goal in the ninth minute and an under-manned Canada held on for a 1-nil win over Cuba in CONCACAF Nations League A play. Canada was reduced to 10 men in the 55th minute when centre back Doneil Henry was sent off for a second yellow card, seemingly for dissent.

Patriots wide receiver Antonio Brown has been accused of rape by a former trainer. Britney Taylor says Brown sexually assaulted her on three occasions, according to a lawsuit filed Tuesday. Brown has denied the allegations. The N-F-L declined comment, but the Patriots say the league told the team it will launch an investigation.
