The Senators Fan Fest will be held on Saturday.

It’s a free event at the Canadian Tire Centre starting at 9 in the morning.

There will be autograph sessions with the players and 25,000 in prizing.

The prizes include trips to Montreal to see the Sens play the Habs and  tickets to the home opener Saturday October 5th against the Rangers.

Toronto rookie pitcher Trent Thornton tried a different grip on his curveball for his first big-league relief appearance. The switch paid immediate dividends. Thornton threw five no-hit innings to anchor a combined two-hit shutout as the Blue Jays dumped the Boston Red Sox 8-0 at Rogers Centre.

Rougned Odor hit a go-ahead, three-run homer and the Texas Rangers beat Tampa Bay 10-9. The loss ends a six-game winning streak by the Rays, who have the A-L’s top wild-card spot. Tampa Bay had four runners thrown out on the bases and saw its lead over Oakland for the top wild-card spot trimmed to a half-game after the A’s won at Houston.

The Peterborough Lakers captured the Mann Cup for the third consecutive year, defeating the host Victoria Shamrocks 7-5 to take best-of-seven Canadian senior lacrosse final in five games. Shawn Evans had a pair of goals for the Lakers, who dropped the series opener before taking the next four games.

Toronto F-C is unbeaten in eight matches in all competitions after going on the road and earning a 1-1 draw with New York City F-C. Alejandro Pozuelo scored in the 40th minute on a penalty kick for Toronto. T-F-C has climbed all the way to fourth in the East after sitting outside a playoff spot most of the M-L-S season.

Rory McIlroy has been voted P-G-A Tour player of the year over Brooks Koepka after posting the most top-10 finishes and winning the FedEx Cup. It’s the third time McIlroy has won the Jack Nicklaus Award, but just the first without having won a major.

Twenty-eight counterfeit N-B-A championship rings have been seized by federal authorities at Los Angeles International Airport. U-S Customs and Border Protection says that the rings were in a wooden box shipped from China with a final destination in Arizona.  Investigators suspect the intent was to sell the phony rings as a collection. No arrests were immediately announced.

Got Stormy is the early 8-to-5 favourite for the $1-million dollar Ricoh Woodbine Mile Saturday at Woodbine Racetrack. The four-year-old daughter of Get Stormy comes in having won her last two starts. The race winner will earn $600,000 and also qualify for the Breeders’ Cup Mile in November at Santa Anita in California.

Wide receiver Antonio Brown went through his first practice with New England yesterday. It came one day after Brown’s former trainer filed a civil lawsuit in Florida accusing him of sexually assaulting her. Patriots coach Bill Belichick declined to comment on additional questions about Brown other than to say the team takes the allegations very seriously. Belichick also sidestepped questions about Brown’s status for Sunday’s game in Miami.
