Connor McDavid scored in the third period after his Oilers teammates chased Frederik Andersen from the game, and Edmonton went on to beat the Maple Leafs 6-4 at Scotiabank Arena. Andersen was pulled after allowing back-to-back goals in the opening two minutes of the second period. The loss was Toronto’s first in regulation in 11 games.

Another loss for the Montreal Canadiens. They made it six defeats in a row by falling 3-2 to the visiting Winnipeg Jets. Andrew Copp’s goal midway through the third period stood as the winner for Winnipeg while goaltender Connor Hellebuyck made 29 saves. Ilya Kovalchuk picked up an assist in his Habs debut.

Semyon Varlamov stopped 32 shots against his former team, Anders Lee scored and the New York Islanders beat the Colorado Avalanche 1-0. The Islanders had lost two straight overall and four in a row at Nassau Coliseum. Varlamov got his 27th career shutout in the first time facing the Avalanche since signing a four-year deal with the Islanders last summer.

Canada’s Denis Shapovalov and Felix Auger-Aliassime defeated Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies 6-3, 7-6 in doubles to clinch a 2-1 victory over Germany at the A-T-P Cup. The doubles match was needed after Canada split its two singles matches against other German players earlier in the day.

De’Aaron Fox had 21 points and seven assists, Buddy Hield also scored 21 and the Sacramento Kings downed the Golden State Warriors 111-98. Trevor Ariza added a season-high 18 points and six rebounds for the Kings, and Harrison Barnes scored 18 as well. Sacramento led by 31 on the way to winning for only the second time in 11 games.

The Phillies have hired former Buffalo Bisons manager Bobby Meacham as an assistant coach to help complete manager Joe Girardi’s staff. Meacham spent the past three seasons managing Triple-A Buffalo in Toronto’s organization. He was with Girardi as third-base coach for the Florida Marlins in 2006 and New York Yankees in 2008.
