Four new covid 19 cases have been reported in Ottawa.

Public health says there were no new deaths in the city.

There are just two people still in hospital with the virus, one of them is in the ICU.

There have been  2,083 cases in Ottawa with just  44 still active.

263 people have died from the virus in Ottawa.

Numbers in Leeds, Grenville and Lanark remain stable with the health unit reporting out of the 299 cases, 99% have recovered.

There has a been a total of 52 deaths in the region – 49 at long term care facilities.


Hospital parking lots will once again start charging a fee for staff, patients and visitors.

Ottawa hospital, CHEO and the Montfort hospital suspended paid parking in March due to closures related to the covid-19 pandemic.

All three hospital have statements posted on their website, that say the fees will be implemented, as of Canada Day.

The statement from the Ottawa hospital said with more services opening, they expect to see a larger number of patients…as well as staff returning to work.

Revenue from hospital parking helps pay for medical equipment and research.


A second nail salon in Kingston is dealing with a case of covid 19.

An employee at Kingdom Nails has tested positive for the coronavirus.

The salon says they are taking this very seriously and are working with the Kingston health unit to ensure everyone’s safety.

The employee who tested positive rents equipment and supplies from the owners of Binh’s Nails and Spa – the first salon with positive cases- that’s how they were in contact with the virus.

There are 22 outbreaks related to that salon.


A body was discovered yesterday afternoon in Pembroke.

The upper Ottawa Valley OPP was called to  an area near River Road around one.

The police say the identity of the person cannot be  confirmed.

An autopsy has been ordered.

Police are asking anyone with information to call  the Upper Ottawa Valley detachment of OPP or Crimestoppers.


Kingston police are asking for help locating a  missing 20 year old man.

Jaykumar Patel was last seen Saturday night wearing only red boxer shorts.

He was seen on video walking from the Wolfe Island dock to Ontario Street.

He is described as  east indian about 5′ 6″ and  weighing 150 pounds.

Ottawa police are asking for your help locating a missing woman.

24 year old Tsion Tesfay was last seen Sunday night around 6:30, in the Somerset West area.

Tesfay is described as black, 5 foot 2, weighing around 140 pounds

She has yellow hair and was last seen wearing a blue skirt, dark blue shoes.

Anyone who spots Tesfay or knows of her whereabouts is being asked to call police.


A video bail hearing is planned today for a man charged in connection with an Amber Alert yesterday.

Police say the 44-year-old man turned himself in to authorities in St. Catharines shortly after the alert was issued for his six-year-old son.

The boy was found safe and his father now faces two charges — abduction in contravention of a custody or parenting order, and disobeying an order of the court.


Human Rights Watch is calling on Ottawa to repatriate dozens of Canadian men, women, and children detained in squalid camps in northeastern Syria.

In a scathing report due out this morning, the international human rights group accuses the federal government of failing to live up to its international obligations by refusing to help the detainees because of their suspected links to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

The organization says other countries have started to repatriate their citizens, and Canada must make bringing back children and their mothers a priority.


Canadian ex-pats who find themselves in COVID-19 hot spot states across the U-S are hunkering down, donning masks and practising physical distancing to avoid getting infected.

Grace Gonzalez, a Toronto native — lives in Houston, and she says masks weren’t pushed by the state government when the re-opening began, much to the chagrin of local officials.

With health officials reporting five-thousand hospitalizations last week, Gonzalez says life in the Lone Star state is a little nerve-wracking these days.


COVID-19 passed a couple of grim milestones over the weekend — with health officials reporting at least 500-thousand people have now died, and more than 10-million cases have been confirmed.

The real death toll from the virus, which first emerged in China late last year, is widely believed to be significantly higher.

The World Health Organization announced another daily record in the number of confirmed cases — topping more than 189-thousand in a single 24-hour period.


Mississippi is retiring the last state flag in the U-S that includes the Confederate battle emblem.

Spectators cheered in the state Capitol yesterday as legislators passed a bill that requires a new flag to be designed without the emblem that many condemn as racist.

The change comes amid widespread protests over racial injustice.

Mississippi has a 38 per cent Black population.


U-S House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is asking for a report to Congress after news reports cited American intelligence from months ago that a Russian military intelligence unit secretly offered bounties to Taliban-linked militants for killing American troops in Afghanistan.

President Donald Trump denies being briefed and claims he’s now been told the intelligence isn’t credible.

Russia has called the report “nonsense.”


Special police forces were quickly deployed in the Pakistani financial city of Karachi after a group of gunmen tried to storm the country’s stock exchange.

Officials say all four gunmen were killed in a swift operation that also secured the building.

Police say the attackers were armed with grenades and automatic rifles.

At least two security guards and a policeman were killed during the attack.


The Chinese government is being accused of taking draconian measures to slash birth rates among Uighurs and other minorities.

An in-depth investigation by the Associated Press found the state regularly subjects minority women to pregnancy checks, forced intra-uterine devices, sterilization and even abortion.

The campaign is leading to what some experts are calling a form of “demographic genocide.”
