The Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Montreal Canadiens 4-2 in their exhibition match at Scotiabank Centre in Toronto. Alex Kerfoot scored twice for the Leafs. Ilya Mikheyev and Morgan Rielly also scored for Toronto. Tomas Tatar and Paul Byron scored for Montreal.

Connor McDavid scored twice as the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Calgary Flames 4-1 in their exhibition contest in Edmonton. Both teams paid tribute to former Oiler Colby Cave before the game. Cave died this past April after suffering a brain bleed.

The Philadelphia Flyers won 3-2 in overtime against the Pittsburgh Penguins in N-H-L exhibition play Tuesday at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. Scott Laughton scored the game-winning goal for Philadelphia. The Flyers also got goals from Kevin Hayes and Sean Couturier in the victory.

The Toronto Raptors lost 117-106 to the Phoenix Suns in their final exhibition game. Pascal Siakam scored 17 points in the loss. Fred VanVleet added 13 points in a losing effort. The Raptors will play their first meaningful game Saturday against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. each hit a home run in a 5-1 win for the Toronto Blue Jays over Washington last night. Right-hander Tanner Roark allowed three hits through five innings of work. Prospect Nate Pearson will start for the Blue Jays tonight against the Nationals’ Max Scherzer.

Benches cleared Tuesday night in the first game between the Houston Astros and the Los Angeles Dodgers. It was the two teams’ first meeting since it was revealed Houston stole signs en route to a 2017 World Series championship victory over the Dodgers. The fracas occurred after Dodgers reliever Joe Kelly threw high-and-tight pitches to Astros stars Alex Bregman and Carlos Correa in the sixth inning.
