Kyle Higashioka hit a career-high three home runs, and the resurgent Yankees hit a season-best seven homers in another thumping of the Blue Jays, hammering Toronto 13-2 one night after beating the Jays 20-6. D-J LeMahieu connected twice as the Yankees won their seventh straight game. New York moved 1-and-a-half games ahead of Toronto for second place in the A-L East.

Javier Baez’s R-B-I single in the 10th inning lifted the Chicago Cubs to their fourth straight win, 3-2 over the Cleveland Indians. The game was delayed seven minutes when a drone entered Wrigley Field and briefly landed on the outfield grass. After it landed, the blinking drone took off, hovered at about 100 feet, then pulled away and vanished into the night beyond the centre-field scoreboard.

New York Mets ace Jacob deGrom left his start against the Philadelphia Phillies after two innings with a right hamstring spasm. He exited after a surprisingly rough two innings that could put a wrinkle in his bid for a third straight N-L Cy Young Award. The right-hander was pulled after only 40 pitches and one strikeout. He allowed three runs for the first time all season. The Mets ended up rallying from a four-run deficit to beat the Phillies 5-4.

The Montreal Impact are out of this year’s Canadian Championship after dropping a 3-1 decision to the Whitecaps in Vancouver. Montreal needed a win in order to top the table in the round-robin portion of the tournament. The loss means Toronto F-C has secured first place instead.

Star receiver Allen Robinson said he expects to remain with the Chicago Bears the rest of the season, though he wouldn’t say if he requested a trade. Robinson is in the final season of his three-year, $42-million dollar U-S contract and is seeking an extension. He deleted references to the Bears from his social media accounts recently, and the Chicago Tribune reported he asked to be traded if they can’t agree to a new deal.

With the health and safety risks around COVID-19, and the inability to deliver a proper event, the Niagara 2021 Canada Summer Games have been postponed until 2022 .The Canada Games Council and Niagara Host Society announced the decision after consultations with the Niagara Region in southern Ontario, and the provincial and federal governments.
